- AG Ashley Moody announced the state has recovered $2 million for Floridians who’ve been victims of COVID-19 scams. In all 5,300 scams have been busted. The most common offenses have been price gouging schemes for hand sanitizers, wipes and masks. To Report a scam visit myFloridalegal.com.
- Brightline provided an operational update on the expansion which would connect South Florida to Orlando. CEO Patrick Goddard said the expansion remains on track despite challenges during the pandemic – including Richard Branson’s Virgin cutting ties with Brightline. According to Goddard the expansion to connect stops as far south as Miami to Orlando will be completed by the end of 2022. This includes a stop recently announced at Disney Springs.
- A 2019 state migration report showed Florida was the top destination for those relocating within the United States. According to the report the top three states Florida saw an influx from were New York, Georgia and Texas.
- Florida’s Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has identified a significant increase in skimmers at gas pumps within the past two weeks. 1,178 have been discovered and removed statewide by the state this year with approximately 8% of all South Florida gas stations having been targeted by scammers this year.
