Palm Beach County School Board Gets COVID-19 Testing Update

The Palm Beach County School Board discussed COVID-19 testing in schools during Wednesday's meeting.

The district says that since September, they screened 17,000 students with symptoms of the virus and 8,000 were sent home for testing.

Now, they can test kids before they leave the campus. Just over 100 schools have rapid antigen tests and more are on the way.

According to school district officials, 82 kids have been tested, and two have received positive results. Out of 34 teachers who have so far received the rapid tests, four were positive.

School Board members also approved an agreement with the county to receive up to $10 million in reimbursements from CARES Act funding to continue to keep schools safe.

The governor announced last month that Florida schools will remain open this spring, with parents having the option of choosing between in-person and virtual learning. He also said parents must be notified if their student is struggling with virtual learning and those struggling students must return to brick-and-mortar classrooms unless their parent affirmatively opts out.
