PBSO Warns About Imposter Cop Scam

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office says a scam that started last year is still being pulled on local residents.

Someone is calling people, claiming to be a deputy and that there is a warrant out for the arrest of that person or a family member.

The imposter goes on to say that the warrant can be rectified by a dollar amount.

"The police do not call you on the phone and say 'We've got a warrant for your arrest and here's what you do.' If police want you, they will come to where you're at and arrest you if they have a warrant."

Sheriff Ric Bradshaw says employees will NEVER call and ask for money or personal information.

He says the scammer is using the name of one of two real PBSO deputies, Capt. Patrick Johnson and Lt. Michael Gauger, and they've traced the numbers back to an offshore account.

The investigation continues.

Meanwhile the Sheriff's Office advises that if you receive a call like this or any other SCAM HANG UP and CALL 911!
