Florida News that impacts you – January 28th, 2021
Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the some of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you in South Florida.
- Florida’s coronavirus trend continued to improve Wednesday. With 8,408 new COVID-19 cases reported, the weekly trend for new cases remains the lowest since December 31st. Today marks four consecutive weeks of declines in cases.
- Approximately 1.5 million Floridians have been vaccinated as of Wednesday’s report from the Florida Department of Health, however overall vaccinations remained below the state’s daily target of 60,000 for a fourth consecutive day. Wednesday marked the first time more Floridians received a 2nd dose than a first dose. This underscores Governor DeSantis’s concerns that the state isn’t receiving first dose vaccines as rapidly as in previous weeks. A total of 1,290,157 Floridians have received a first dose and 203,846 Floridians have completed the two-dose schedule.
- It’s been a week of event cancelations across the state due to the pandemic. First it was Miami’s Ultra Music festival, followed by West Palm Beach’s Sunfest both pushing back until 2022. Now Naval Air Station Jacksonville has canceled the Blue Angels Air Show. Last year the Blue Angels flew the entire eastern coastline of Florida to lift spirits during the lockdowns. No word if they’ll do something similar this year.
- On back of Donald Trump opening an Office of the Former President earlier this week, former First Lady Melania Trump is doing the same. Melina is opening an office at Mar-A-Lago which will be staffed with a few of her Whitehouse Staffers to continue her “Be Best” initiatives.
