Police Department Goes Virtual In Hiring Efforts

Recruiting efforts have gone virtual for the Boynton Beach Police Department.

For Protecting the Palm Beaches, Chief Michael Gregory tells me the hiring that started late last year continues.

"It's a floating number usually but I think the last number I got was about 13 vacancies for sworn police officers. And we have some other non-sworn civilian positions available as well, like in our dispatch area and our records section."

He says the number of vacancies is floating because of officers retiring and people leaving for other reasons.

Gregory hosted a Facebook Live session this week, to answer questions of potential job candidates.

"We had questions from Michigan, from New York, from all over as well as in Florida and the South Florida area. I think within an area we had over 1,200 views."

Chief Gregory says the pandemic made going virtual a no-brainer since the number of in-person job fairs is down.

Something he wants anyone considering joining the Boynton Beach Police Department to know about are their 5 core values.

"We believe in professionalism, respect, integrity, dedication and excellence."

The agency is offering a $5,000 bonus to Florida-certified officers who join the team.
