Top Three Takeaways – March 12th, 2021

  1. Make it stop. I’m talking about time changes in Florida and I’m at looking at Congress. The saying...it takes an act of Congress, most certainly applies here. It’s been three years since Florida passed a law calling for the end of time changes allowing us to remain in Daylight Saving Time. And for three straight years Senator Rubio has introduced legislation which would simply let Florida do what we’ve already voted to do. And for three straight years it’s gone...nowhere. There are many reasons it’s absurd. Starting with Arizona, Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, The Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. What do they all have in common? They don’t do time changes. And Congress has acknowledged this. It’s not like what Florida’s asking for is unprecedented or even unusual. Actually, it’s the act of artificially altering time two days a year that is. So please Congress, let this be the year you allow us to make it stop by allowing this weekend to be the last time we have to go through this anti-scientific exercise. After all it’s the least they can do for Floridians since Congress already...
  2. Sold you out. 31% less. That’s what Florida gets as part of the COVID bill President Biden signed into law. Florida will receive 31% fewer proceeds from the legislation because the legislation was drawn up to give money to states with the highest unemployment rates. This exclusively benefits Democrat-controlled states which locked down and were mismanaged during the pandemic. The Democrats in control of the federal government drew this up by design. But not only is it that Florida will receive 31% less than our population would otherwise dictate, it’s that you’ll have to pay 31% more of the burden through federal income taxes than what we receive as well. That’s because every Democrat in Congress in Florida sold you out. Even if they philosophically support the extent of the debt spending associated with this near two-trillion package, they had a responsibility to demand that you were equitably represented. Instead, they allowed you, me and all Floridians to be fleeced for the benefit of California, New York, New Jersey and a litany of other blue states at your literal expense. They clearly put their political party above their constituents. Consequently, for making us pay the price for their politicking, we should all see to it that they pay a political price by voting them out of office next year. Not previously supporting the end of Florida’s time changes is one thing. Having Floridians pay the price for the failure of other states is quite another. The Democrat’s majority in the House is so narrow that had Florida’s Democrats simply demanded equal representation for Florida in the legislation – Nancy Pelosi would have had to make the changes to secure the passage. But they didn’t. Florida’s Democrats sold you out. They sold all of us out. So...
  3. Don’t forget to advance your clock an hour Saturday night. And be mindful of who you have to thank for it when you do. Incidentally it’s the same people who just sold you out.
