Top Three Takeaways – March 17th, 2021
- Good news that keeps getting better. That’s what Florida’s got going for it right now. Just a week and a half ago we found out Florida’s unemployment rate, which was already below the national average, was substantially lower than we’d previously been told. That was an example of good news getting better. But wait there’s more... The Bureau of Labor Statistics just released January’s unemployment rate for Florida and it’s now down to 4.8%. That compares to the national average of 6.3%, or to put it another way. Florida’s unemployment rate is 24% below the national average. Remember a year ago when Florida was projected to have one of the three highest unemployment rates in the country, with expected unemployment rates of over 30%? It’s funny what can happen when you have good leadership. It’s also the latest reminder that most economists are little more than political hacks who are terrible at what they do. Not so unlike most in news media who report on these fools. These are the same people who said Trump’s tax cuts would hurt the economy and benefit only the rich...as opposed to the reality of record low unemployment rates, record high incomes with the top 5% of income earners having their tax burden rise as the bottom 95% of income earners paid less in federal incomes taxes. When you consider the source it’s of little surprise that Florida’s economy is flourishing while California and New York’s are floundering. Related...
- 816. That’s the net daily population increase Florida experienced last year based on the Demographic Estimating Conference. Clearly these people coming here from other states get it. Those who don’t? Yep, check traditional news media again. From the Wall Street Journal to various others, stories have emerged that somehow nearly as many people are leaving Florida as are coming here. Umm only if you consider a net of 816 more people per day nearly. The point is two-fold. Fake news narratives are now so pervasive that even population migration stories are being spun and if anyone tries to suggest to you that’s the case you know why they’re so wrong. It’s a reminder about knowing...
- Who you can trust... Clearly that’s not the Washington Post and related fake news outlets who reported a source quoting then President Trump’s alleged comments to Georgia State officials prior to the Congressional certification of election results. The Washington Post which produced an article quoting Trump on the phone call as saying, “find the fraud”, alleging he was ordering some type of misfeasance, never actually happened. It’s remarkable when you quote someone for saying something that was never said but indeed that’s what the Washington Post admitted to doing after a recording of the call emerged revealing President Trump never said anything to that effect. Just as remarkable as the extent to which the same news media which covered the bogus Post story at length are going to avoid covering this retraction. This was falsified news regarding the President of the United States which potentially impacted the Georgia Senate runoff elections. And by the way... Who is the Washington Post owned by? Jeff Bezos. And isn’t Amazon the same company that de-platformed Parler and intimidated other technology companies from doing business with them? The same company which has censored books from its store? But here’s the question. Is it the same company that you continue to most commonly buy from? We reap what we sow. And even if it’s not always clear who you can trust. Its crystal clear, who you can’t.
