Top Three Takeaways – March 22nd, 2021

  1. 138 days. Seemingly random number? Yes. Is it? No. It happens to be the last time Florida’s averaged as few daily COVID-19 cases as we’d averaged last week. Yes, we’ve reached nearly five-month lows as we’re heading down the homestretch of March. While headlines abound about rising COVID cases in 21 states and videos of bad behavior from Spring Breakers on South Beach have been all the rage, we’re continuing to make significant progress towards putting this virus behind us in Florida. This includes Florida’s first three consecutive days of more than 100,000 first-dose vaccinations taking place last week and with over 4.8 million Floridians now having been vaccinated, the eligibility window is about to be opened significantly with Governor DeSantis dropping the age for eligibility to 50. The light at the end of the COVID tunnel really isn’t that far away in Florida.
  2. Rediscover Florida. It’s the latest marketing campaign brought to you courtesy of Visit Florida. The rediscover campaign will focus on what makes Florida naturally awesome including destinations to... fish, boat, kayak, tube, hit the beach, camp, hike, swim, dive, ride horses and engage with native animals. It’s a good reminder that there’s far more to our state than theme parks and is clearly a great way to enjoy what’s natural while supporting our state’s economy as we’re on the comeback trail. Also, all pandemic safe options as well. I was telling my wife Ashley over the weekend that the memories I cherish most from my childhood were at the beach, hiking and tubing. All great experiences with nature and family. Not one of them involved a theme park. Sure, those were fun to a point, but not really meaningful. And yes, this is my preference which might not be shared by everyone, but Visit Florida has it right here...What if you never make the effort to introduce your family to all that Florida has to naturally offer? How many of the best memories might you be missing? Speaking of Floridians engaging in new experiences... Donald Trump is set to return to social media with a...
  3. New Platform. One that he’s created. If you’ve wondered why President Trump hasn’t joined Parler or made an effort to have services restored with all of the anti-American platforms which censored him originally... It’s because he’s going creating his own. That’s one way to ensure no one silences his voice. While we don’t know what exactly it will be, we do know when it will be. Approximately two-three months. All of this courtesy of President Trump’s former campaign manager Jason Miller. Times are changing and actually all for the better in Florida right now. Florida’s nearing the fewest daily cases in five months, Floridians 50 and older may now get a vaccine and a new free-speech social media platform is in the offing... Chalk all of this up as the next cog in Florida’s future effort to save this country from itself.
