Most Palm Springs Police Officers Say They Won't Get Vaccinated For COVID

With Florida lowering the age requirement to 18 and over next week, all of our members of law enforcement will be able to get the COVID vaccine, but many say they don't plan on it.

"I had put out a poll to the officers to see who'd be willing to take the vaccine and I'd say about a third were willing to take it. That was a couple of months ago, but police departments everywhere are all in the same boat...about a third are willing to get it."

Palm Springs Police Chief Tom Ceccarelli says he's gotten his shots and he's urging his employees to get theirs.

"I'm trying to tell everyone to do it, especially officers who are out there with the public all day long. We're susceptible to being exposed to it."

The chief says the Village of Palm Springs has approved COVID relief time for any officers to use if they need time off due to any side effects they may receive from the vaccine.

Ceccarelli says he has had some officers come down with the coronavirus, but everyone has survived.
