Top Three Takeaways – April 23rd, 2021
- Who are the racists? When something isn’t about race, but you make it about race, are you not the racist? On back of the politicizing of the Columbus officer involved shooting, it’s a good time for a refresher on what the definition of what a racist is: prejudiced against or antagonistic toward a person or people on the basis of their membership in a particular racial or ethnic group. Now, take the situation in Columbus, Ohio. Two 911 calls are made regarding a disturbance in which a girl is threatening another girl. When police arrive on the scene a Black girl has pinned another Black girl against a car and knife in hand begins to attack. An officer fires at the attacker potentially saving the life of the girl being attacked. What does this have to do with race? What’s more, investigation pending, is the likelihood the officer is a hero but instead was made a target. First, by the Biden administration. This was the unbelievably irresponsible statement made by Jen Psaki, of the Jen Psaki drinking game: She was a child. We’re thinking of her friends and family in the communities that are hurting and grieving her loss. We know that police violence disproportionately impacts black and Latino people in communities and that black women and girls, like black men and boys, experience higher rates of police violence. There really aren’t words. And frankly the only appropriate ones aren’t FCC compliant. But it didn’t stop there. The leader of the NBA weighed in by tweeting a picture of the heroic officer and saying, “you’re next”. But wait there’s more, because you also had George Floyd’s attorney, Ben Crump lying in a tweet which Twitter never took down which states: As we breathed a collective sigh of relief today, a community in Columbus felt the sting of another police shooting as @ColumbusPolice killed an unarmed 15yo Black girl named Makiyah Bryant. Another child lost! Of course, she’s 16 and was wielding a knife which was less than 1 second from entering the body of another girl but why get bogged down with the truth when that’s not what they’re interested in anyway? I don’t know the hearts of Jen Psaki, of the Jen Psaki drinking game, Lebron James or Ben Crump to know if they’re racists. I can tell you declaratively that their statements and actions were racist and represent a cancer within our society which only divides us further and makes everyone less safe. If I were the Columbus police officer targeted, I’d have already pressed charges against Lebron James and Ben Crump. Btw, how’s that unifier of a President working out?
- Don’t take the (race) bait. That’s what they, the race baiters, want you to do. Stand for integrity and the truth. More of it is desperately needed in our society.
- Thank a cop today. And don’t forget to thank their families. Can you imagine what they’re thinking and feeling everyday? They need us more than ever just as we need them more than ever.
