Top Three Takeaways – May 5th, 2021
- Game On. In the battle between Governor Ron DeSantis and former governor turned senate candidate turned candidate for governor, turned Congressman Charlie Crist. Except it isn’t. As much as the news media wants to make this a race between these two, Charlie’s got a long way to go. Starting with winning a party primary. Something he failed to due in his bid for senate against Marco Rubio once upon a time which sent him on his political odyssey out of the Republican party, into independent status and eventually into the hands of Democrats where he eventually won something again. On that note, when asked about the Crist competition DeSantis responded... Which party is he going to run under? Do we know for sure? Classic. While the news media wants to make this out to be a battle between two political big dogs, DeSantis’s simple rhetorical questions bely the bigger point. Charlie isn’t yet DeSantis’s competition or concern and may never be. Furthermore, the attitude and confidence projected is this...if Ron DeSantis is a political big dog – Crist is an ankle bitter. That’s the reality that comes with having run under three different political parties in this state and having lost elections in each one of them (Crist lost a state House race as a Republican in the 90’s). But DeSantis wasn’t the only Florida official trolling Charlie on Tuesday. More came from...
- Nikki Fried. Just after Charlie announced his bid, Fried had this to say: (DeSantis) must be a one term governor. And as the only statewide elected Democrat it makes absolute sense for me to be running for governor. But today is not the day for me to be making this announcement. Clearly, she’s not feeling deterred by Charlie’s entrance into this race. In fact, she quickly trolled Charlie on Twitter by retweeting Miami Herald reporter’s Samantha Gross saying...Thinking about that time Charlie Crist said Florida was desperate for more leaders like Nikki. Nikki’s response? Me, too. Come to think of it. There’s one type of election Charlie still hasn’t lost in Florida. A Democratic primary. But maybe the reason it’s still not time for Nikki is because of her debunked lies about pay-for-play vaccines under the DeSantis administration and her department’s failure to comply with the Clean Water Act. While the traditional news media is playing their traditional role of omission to protect a favored Democrat but not covering Congressman Brian Mast’s information request into Nikki’s department demanding answers as to why Nikki has failed to provide critical information regarding contaminants in Florida’s waterways under the Clean Waterways Act for three consecutive quarters coinciding with the earliest and worst toxic algae readings registered in Lake Okeechobee... Well, there are a number of reasons why the timing might not be right for Nikki. Especially since her partner is and has been one of the biggest players in Florida’s cannabis business. Cannabis, a booming industry largely unregulated under her watch which could be contributing to the contamination in our waterways, the record algal boom readings at Lake O’ and perhaps her refusal to provide needed information to the state? Yep, bad timing.
- Take it easy Charlie. In announcing his run for Governor, Crist tweeted out...Florida should be a place where hard work is rewarded, justice is equal, and opportunity is right in front of you. Wouldn’t it be easier if he just voted for Ron DeSantis?
