Top Three Takeaways – May 7th, 2021

  1. No Shirt. No Shoes. No Service. Ok...so it wasn’t quite communicated that way but that’s what came to mind when local media discovered they’d been shutout from Governor DeSantis’s signing of SB 90, aka Florida’s new voter integrity law. The made for Fox News signing event took local media by surprise and even more so as they arrived on site only to be told they weren’t being allowed in. Now, the decision to keep the signing ceremony exclusive to Fox News is legitimately a questionable one. Especially given that Fox News confirmed they didn’t ask for an exclusive. It was DeSantis’s media team who did in coordination with supporters – but the feigned reactions of disbelief throughout the day became comical. And perhaps the reason they weren’t allowed in was explained by the questions that were asked of the governor as he was leaving the signing ceremony. Specifically, the one he answered. Why was it kept a secret? As DeSantis answered...It wasn’t a secret it was on national television. Why is that such a ridiculous question? Because of the premise. That question comes from only one of two places. News reporters who are clueless and/or reporters who are whining about not being invited. Both extremely lame. There are an average of 200 bills signed into law in Florida every year. Approximately 90% are signed in “secret”, or behind closed doors with no media of any sort around. What about those you intrepid news reporters you? Or, I don’t know, dare do your job and investigate why Nikki Fried has failed to comply with the Clean Waterways Act and is currently unlawfully using Department of Agriculture Resources to campaign? And, oh, right about the law.
  2. It’s not complicated. Election integrity. Good idea or bad idea? A rank of 2nd worst in the developed world. Good or bad? A score of 75 out of 100. Good score or bad score? Here’s where it’s not complicated. Harvard’s Election Integrity Project has found the United States to be the 2nd worst in the developed world. And Florida’s current score is a 75 out of 100. The United States is in dire need of enhanced integrity measures generally. And for those who’ve argued Florida ran the best elections in the country last year, so we don’t need to change anything... They’re probably the same people who’d answer that a 75 is a good score which explains a lot. The real question is why is it that groups like the NAACP and the League of Liberal Women Voters are suing to try to protect a “C” system operating in the 2nd worst country in the world for election integrity?
  3. The real racists. Anyone of any ethnicity can be a racist. The Jim Crow laws were the segregation laws passed by Democrats in the South after emancipation.  Meaning that the laws started with segregation and progressively became worse from there. Those who dare call Florida’s new voting law or any current laws in the United States Jim Crow laws; are an affront to the truth and their party’s history. Starting with the Democratic Party being the party of the Jim Crow laws. Those saying these things are projecting.
