Top Three Takeaways – May 20th, 2021

  1. What’s up is down. What’s down is up. How many times since Joe Biden became president and Democrats took control of congress have you felt that way? Maybe the better question is if there has been a single day that’s gone by in which you haven’t felt that way? That’s because after decades of discussions about the threat of socialism infiltrating the United States, it’s actively represented by Democrats in Congress. It’s because after decades of warning about the efforts to undermine our constitution starting with our First Amendment, big tech companies have seized control of the internet to do it. But primarily it’s because after decades of warning about what was and wasn’t happening inside of classrooms due to the creation of the Department of Education in 1980, we have two generations of adults who’ve been indoctrinated, propagandized and taught that there are more than two genders. Pretty much all of the daily cultural absurdities are explained away by that one. But this isn’t a general pontification. Of all the absurdities I can’t think of any more absurd than siding with terrorists. By midday Wednesday, Israel had been subjected to over 3,000 rocket attacks by Hamas. Imagine if Osama Bin Laden’s Al Qaeda launched over 3,000 missiles at us. Hard to imagine isn’t it. Then consider Israel is a country barely larger than the state of New Jersey. Now consider this. President Biden called Prime Minister Netanyahu, according to White House accounts, to tell him to stand down. So, to recap, a terrorist organization which has a stated goal of the eradication of Israel initiates missile attacks on Israel, follows through with thousands of rockets and Israel is called on by President Biden to stand down? What’s up is down. What’s down is up and with friends like Joe Biden who needs enemies? Ditto the news media who covers for his debacle of an administration. Also, none of this absurdity stops until we retake control of our children’s education. Florida continues to head in the right direction with expanded school choice, the eradication of common core and mandatory civics education but the absurdity presented to us undermining our constitution, freedoms and values is happening right now...just as is the threat to Israel from Hamas via Iran. This policy btw, is apparently what happens when a member of the Squad meets Joe Biden on a tarmac. Dare I ask what’s next?
  2. Game on, or is it? We’ve finally found something almost all of Florida’s elected Democrats and Republicans can agree on. Gambling. In one of the most bipartisan pieces of legislation to pass in Florida this year, Governor DeSantis’s renegotiated Seminole Compact with inclusion of sports betting passed overwhelmingly. After a 38-1 vote in the Florida Senate, the House voted 97-17 to send it to Governor DeSantis’s desk. Upon its passage Governor DeSantis had this to say: With this new compact, the state will now see a large stream of recurring revenue to the tune of billions of dollars over the next few years. The deal will also create over 2,000 jobs. I want to thank the Seminole Tribe of Florida Chairman Marcellus Osceola Jr., Senate President Wilton Simpson, House Speaker Chris Sprowls, and the entire Florida Legislature for getting this done for our great state. But it’s not done. The legal battles are just beginning. Ironically the state legislature’s percentage vote in favor was larger than 2018’s Amendment 3 which is going to be used by No Casinos to try to stop it. Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber, who is part of the No Casinos effort all but told me Wednesday he’s certain it’ll go down in court. That’s where the game is on. Not in casinos, at racetracks or stadiums. The courtroom.
  3. 3,000. A month ago, Florida hit its spring peak for coronavirus cases averaging 6,756. Today we’re at 3,000. What a difference a month has made.
