- Heading into Memorial Day weekend, Florida’s trend of new COVID-19 cases is the lowest it’s been since the beginning of October. With only 2,338 new cases reported by the Florida Department of Health on Thursday – typically the peak day for new reported cases – Florida’s weekly trend for cases is the lowest since October 6th.
- Nearly 10.2 million Floridians have now been vaccinated with at least a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. This includes over 8.1 million who’ve completed a vaccine series. 55% of adults have been vaccinated with at least a first dose of a vaccine.
- A lawsuit has been filed by attorney’s representing the Computer & Communications Industry Association and NetChoice against Florida’s “Big Tech Law”. Both entities are technology lobbying firms. The law mandates transparent, posted, guidelines for community standards that would lead a platform to censor or de-platform users. It mandates the standards be applied equally to all users. Under the law, Floridians would be able to sue for up to $100,000 if they feel they’ve been unfairly treated by companies. In addition, the state would be able to fine companies up to $250,000 per day per offense. A legal challenge was anticipated by the state.
- Florida’s Disaster Preparedness sales tax holiday starts today and runs through June 6th. Items included are Portable generators, tarps & related supplies, power banks, coolers, fuel containers, batteries, radios, flashlights, lanterns, candles & ice packs.
