Top Three Takeaways – May 28th, 2021

  1. Is Nikki DOA? Tuesday is the big day! It’s what you’ve been waiting for... What? You don’t know what I mean? No, I’m not talking about start of hurricane season. There’s no other day that comes to mind? Really? She’s been teasing it for weeks... It’s ok, I’m pretty sure no one this side of Twitter or MSNBC is excited either. So, Tuesday’s the day that Nikki Fried’s #SomethingNew happens. That something new is the long expected official entrance into the governor’s race. For Nikki it’s supposed to be an exciting day, the kickoff of bigger and better things. The beginning of the end of the job she never wanted anyway, but saw as a stepping stone to the one she did want. But Nikki didn’t have to wait until Tuesday to get a heavy dose of current reality. Even the overwhelming majority of Democrats don’t want her. Now that’s got to be a tough pill to swallow. St. Pete Polls is out with the first sampling of exclusively Democrats regarding Florida’s governor’s race and the survey says... Not even a quarter of Democrats want Nikki Fried as of today. In the poll of Florida’s Democrats 55% said they’d vote for Charlie Crist compared to only 22% who’d vote for Nikki Fried. Tuesday will technically be the start of her campaign not the end of it, though unless something dramatically changes, they might as well be one in the same. In a May 4th story entitled: Is Nikki Fried Failing Florida, I illustrated two points. First, that she killed her credibility when she demonstrably lied about Governor DeSantis’s vaccine rollout for months – which blew up in her face after the 60 Minutes hit piece was proven to be all lies. Second, that she’s been failing as Agriculture Commissioner. Most notably she’s violated The Clean Water Ways Act since last summer, is still in non-compliance coinciding with the worst toxic algae crisis in Lake O’s history. It appears that most outside of the Twitterverse get it. When you’re already a statewide elected official and you start a campaign with only 22% of your own party wanting you...Rather than June 1st being her big day, her campaign may well be DOA. Related...
  2. The big picture. Social media isn’t reality, especially Twitter. Yesterday I brought you the news that 74% of us don’t want critical race theory in our schools. What was Nikki Fried doing? Tweeting in favor of it while also saying this: Systemic racism isn’t “crazy liberal stuff” — it’s part of the history of our country. It netted her 2,700 likes. Nikki Fried has 153,600 Twitter followers. In 2018 she received over 4 million votes. Her campaign in 2018 wasn’t that of the woke social justice warrior. Today it is on Twitter. When you lose perspective on the big picture in lieu of instant gratification, it's rarely a good decision and Nikki’s example is a reminder for all of us. Calling the United States, which has provided more freedom, opportunity and wealth for every minority group than any country in the history of the world, systemically racist isn’t just false – it's offensive to the memories of those we honor this weekend.
  3. Perspective... Over 1.5million service men and women have died providing the freedom that we’re blessed to enjoy every day. Remember to take a little time to honor their memory and otherwise enjoy the heck out of this weekend. I certainly intend to.
