Top Three Takeaways – June 8th, 2021

  1. The Florida Board of Education vs Critical Race Theory. Thursday’s a big day for the future of our state’s education system. Earlier this year, Governor DeSantis and Florida’s Education Commissioner Richard Cocoran, proposed a rule banning CRT in Florida’s schools. Thursday is the day the Florida Board of Education decides whether to adopt the ban. At the time of the rule change many on the left attempted to say it wasn’t necessary because it wasn’t being taught in schools...except that’s not entirely true. After the New York Times won a Pulitzer for the CRT initiative, The 1619 Project in 2019, the Pulitzer Center sent the book to 4,500 schools across the country – including throughout the state of Florida. While it’s not part of the curriculum, it is recommended reading in some school libraries. Then came the recent moves by the Duval and Palm Beach County School Districts to include tenants of Critical Race Theory into the mission statements of the Districts. Clearly the push for CRT is on in our state. Many of our issues in society today can be traced the removal of God from our schools and the Department of Education’s takeover of the education establishment in 1980. We need to take our schools back. Governor DeSantis has made this a priority with the end of Common Core and the implementation of mandatory civics education. The question is what kind of civics education? What happens at Thursday’s board meeting in Jacksonville is a critical day for the future of Florida’s education system.
  2. Mo Money & Mo Jobs. That’s a great combination and it’s exactly what we’ve got going on in Florida. Not only is Florida’s unemployment rate well below the national average, with the second strongest job growth in the country over the past ten years...wages have been rising too. Floridians have seen incomes rise 10% higher than the rate of inflation over the past decade. This illustrates the quality of available jobs has been growing – not just the total number of jobs available. That’s a win-win. Speaking of economic wins for Floridians... According to the Tax Foundation’s annual report our total tax burden in Florida is 4th lowest this year. It's not just the lack of a state income tax that we have going for us. Florida’s better than average in every tax category and the only change in ranking over last year, corporate taxes, was an improvement. It’s no wonder why the rest of the country is moving here...
  3. Florida chose freedom over Faucism. That’s a top ten all-time line. It’s what Governor DeSantis said as he addressed the crowd of 22,000 Luke Bryant fans Sunday night in Panama City Beach. By the way...His reception...Holy Crap – check this out... Wow. Did Luck Bryant get as warm of a welcome?
