- The Army Corps of Engineers has selected what is known as the “CC” plan for future discharges from Lake Okeechobee. The plan, which sends the most water of any south through the Everglades as opposed to east-west discharges into Florida’s waterways, was one of five under consideration and was favored by Congressman Brian Mast and Governor DeSantis. - Governor DeSantis signed the Florida Wildlife Corridor Act into law Monday. The law tasks Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection to protect and preserve an estimated 18 million acres of land from the Everglades to the Okefenokee swamp. This includes acquisitions using money from the Florida Forever Fund.
- While addressing the recent surge in COVID-19 cases, Governor DeSantis emphasized that while numerous breakthrough cases are being reported the vaccines are largely proving to be effective at minimizing symptoms. He said: If you are vaccinated, though, the number of people who end up hospitalized is almost zero. It’s incredibly, incredibly low. So I think there is some misinformation out there that these people were vaccinated and they tested positive. Understand, the positive test is not a clinical diagnoses of illness. So, if you’re vaccinated and you test positive, but you don’t get sick, well the name of the game is to keep people out of the hospital. Speaking of breakthrough cases...
- Florida Congressman Vern Buchanan has become the latest high-profile individual to have contracted COVID-19 after having been fully vaccinated. He said he’s experiencing flu-like symptoms and is quarantining at home.
- Starting today doctors authorized to recommend medical marijuana must have patients sign a consent form for smokable medical marijuana. The consent form lays out the increased risk of smoking marijuana as opposed to other methods.
