- A unanimous vote of the Broward School Board extends mask mandates for classroom education for the start of the upcoming school year. The mandate is squarely against the Florida Department of Education’s edict and sets up a potential showdown with the state. The Board said they’d revisit the policy after Labor Day.
- According to the Mayo Clinic’s COVID-19 tracker and projections, Florida is set to continue to see a surge in new COVID-19 cases for at least the next two weeks. The low end of their guidance suggests new daily cases will rise by 47% over current levels.
- Based on CDC data, as the state’s official reporting is currently issued weekly, there were 16,058 new diagnosed COVID-19 cases in Florida on Wednesday. That marks the highest daily total since January 15th and exceeded the peak day for cases last summer.
