- Recent movers in the state legislative session included the Individual Education Plans bill which allows parents of students with disabilities to remain involved in the education decision making of their children past the age of 18. Under Florida law, students with special needs may remain within K-12 schools through age 22. The legislation passed the legislature unanimously and heads to Governor DeSantis’ desk. The Vacation Rentals bill passed the 2nd of three Senate committee stops on a party-line vote. The legislation would standardize the practice of vacation rental procedures statewide, allowing for cities and counties to require properties used as vacation rentals to register and pay business fees to operate, within limits. The bill has cleared all house committee stops and is ready for a floor vote.
- Gas prices rose by another 7 cents per gallon Tuesday. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded is currently $3.69 per gallon – 11 cents higher than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is now $3.85 per gallon, which is the highest price in the state. Related...
- Over the previous day 500,000+ gallons of fuel were delivered to South Florida from other parts of the state as part of an operation by the Florida Division of Emergency Management to alleviate gas shortages resulting from last week’s historic flooding in Broward which blocked gas supplies from Port Everglades. Area shortages were mostly resolved yesterday.
- A new ten-year study of the fastest growing cities for millionaires shows the West Palm Beach metro as the 4th fastest grower in the world over the past decade with 90% more millionaires than a decade ago. Other US locations included Austin, Texas at #2 and Scottsdale, Arizona at #5.
