- Recent movers in the state legislative session included the Vacation Rentals bill. In a mostly party-line vote, the proposal which would enable county and municipal governments to require vacation rental properties to be registered and to pay business fees, within certain limits, passed the senate and awaits a vote in the house. The Shared Parental Responsibility bill, which makes it easier for unwed fathers to have shared custody rights to children, has unanimously passed the state legislature and heads to Governor DeSantis to sign.
- While in Jerusalem, Governor DeSantis signed the Public Nuisances, or anti-Semitism bill into law. The new law increases penalties for illegal hate speech and harassment on the basis of one’s religion or ethnicity, to a felony. The bill was authored by Palm Beach County State Rep. - Governor DeSantis announced a partnership between Fort Lauderdale based Avenger Flight Group and EL AL Israel Airlines. Under the agreement, Avenger will expand operations into Israel providing flight training for all EL AL pilots.
- Gas prices dropped a penny Thursday. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded is currently $3.67 per gallon – four cents lower than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price remains $3.86 per gallon, which is the highest price in the state.
- A new study by wine company Vine Pair found that Florida is full of winos. Florida is second only to California in total wine consumption and tenth in consumption per capita. 70.7 million gallons of wine were consumed in Florida last year.
