- Governor DeSantis signed the Deceased Individuals bill, aka Curtis’ Law, into law on Monday. Under the law, when investigating the of a death of a minor, the law enforcement agency that oversees the investigation must provide the minor’s next of kin with the contact information for the primary investigator and contact information for any other law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation. Law enforcement must also provide information on the status of the investigation, the case number, and a list of the minor victim’s effects and instructions on how to collect them.
- As many are watching for a likely presidential bid to be announced this week by Governor DeSantis, the state legislature delivered 12 additional bills to the governor on Monday for his consideration; however, the new Elections bill wasn’t among them. The Elections bill is key as it includes a change to the state’s resign-to-run law which would enable DeSantis to run for president without resigning as governor to do so.
- A new study by Shopify found Florida ranked 8th ,on a rate basis, for entrepreneurial contribution to the US economy last year with $15.5 billion generated from startups, representing 10% growth over the prior year with 63,560 jobs created. Most recently Florida leads the country in new business formation.
- Gas prices are a penny lower today. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded is currently $3.39 per gallon – eight cents lower than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price remains $3.65 per gallon, which is the 2nd highest price in the state.
