- South Florida’s inflation rate remains greater than double the national inflation rate, though it did drop considerably in June. According to the regional CPI Report, the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach metro’s inflation rate was 6.9% in June – down from 9% most recently. The national rate paced 3% year-over-year.
- The most recent Crime Index Report for Florida, which accounts for population adjusted crime, shows Mangonia Park as being the most dangerous city in Florida over the past year. Crimes were recorded at four times the average rate in the city. Rounding out the top five most dangerous cities in Florida – Medley was #2, Opa Locka #3, Florida City #4 and Cocoa #5. The Palm Beaches are well represented among the safest cities. Highland Beach is the 2nd safest city in Florida, Jupiter Inlet Colony is the 3rd, South Palm Beach is 4th and Sewall’s Point is 5th.
- Loggerhead Marinelife Center reports having monitored a potentially record-breaking number of sea turtle nests so far this season. They’ve monitored over 17,000 nests which projects to greater than 20,000 by the conclusion of the nesting season in our area. Last year a total of 18,132 nests were monitored. Loggerhead attributes the improvement in numbers to successful conservation efforts.
- Gas prices were flat Wednesday. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded is currently $3.45 per gallon – 11 cents higher than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.59 per gallon, which is the highest price in the state.
