- A total of five tropical systems are active throughout the Atlantic basin including two tropical waves and Tropical Storms Franklin, which is expected to make landfall tomorrow in Hispaniola, Gert and Emily. None of the systems currently pose a threat to Florida.
- Today through Friday the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office will conduct Operation Safe Kids. Throughout the week PBSO will have an added presence in what are determined to be high risk areas for pedestrian traffic. Warnings, citations and educational materials will be issued by PBSO to those who drive recklessly in these areas.
- FAU researchers have found watch wristbands are a “hotbed” for harmful bacteria. In a study published in Advances in Infectious Diseases, 95% of wristbands tested in the study contained at least one type of harmful bacteria. 60% of tested wristbands contained E.coli. Researchers recommend regular cleaning with disinfectant solutions.
- Gas prices held steady near recent highs through the weekend. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded is currently $3.81 per gallon – 9 cents higher than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.96 per gallon, which is the second highest price in the state.
