- A disturbance is in the eastern Caribbean Sea and has a 60% chance of developing into a tropical cyclone as it drifts towards Central America. Today's the last day of the current King Tide cycle which may bring localized flooding to vulnerable coastal communities.
- Boca based insurance agent Naser Al-Sweity, an owner-operator of Florida P&C Insurance made his first court appearance on Tuesday for insurance fraud. The 23-count indictment alleges Al-Swiety alleges he stole the premiums paid by clients for insurance policies at his firm. He also allegedly took out life insurance policies on clients without their knowledge or consent. The judge raised the bond during yesterday’s first court hearing and has yet to set a second court date.
- The Palm Beach County School District’s school Choice applications process is underway today. PBC’s school choice program is separate from Florida’s universal school choice programs as it offers students from pre-K through 12th grade an opportunity to choose from theme-based curriculums across 335 programs county-wide. For students in the choice program transportation is provided if the school selected is two miles or more from their home. - It was a record-breaking sea turtle nesting season according to Loggerhead Marinelife Center. The season which runs from March 1st through October 31st produced a documented 25,025 nests. The record was led by green sea turtles which doubled their nesting numbers over a year ago accounting for over 9,100 of the nests. Experts believe conservation efforts from decades ago are paying dividends as turtles from those eras have reached maturity.
- Gas prices have fallen by two cents today. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded is $3.25 per gallon – 7 cents lower than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.46 per gallon. In Indian River County the average price is $3.27 per gallon.
