- Florida’s special legislative session begins today and is scheduled for four days. Including companion bills, there are currently 11 active bills which will be considered across five categories: Disaster relief for Hurricane Idalia recovery and additional grant money for the My Safe Florida Home Program, The Family empowerment scholarship bill, which would expand the number of students eligible for the scholarship, the scrutinized companies bill which would block investments by the state to companies with ties to Iran, the Security Grants bill which would open up grants for Jewish non-profits in the state to boost onsite security and a pair of bills which would express support for Israel and condemnation for Hamas.
- Effective today West Palm Beach will begin to charge for passengers riding its Circuit ride share program accessed through the Ride Circuit app. The service operated by the West Palm Beach Downtown Development Authority will charge a $4 fee for a first passenger, and $1 additional fee for subsequent passengers within a party, for those who initiate or end a ride outside of West Palm Beaches city limits (meaning Palm Beach). The ride share will remain free for those remaining within the city.
- The tropics are clear with no activity expected over the next week.
- Gas prices continued to fall through the weekend. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded is $3.16 per gallon – 12 cents lower than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.35 per gallon and in Indian River County the average is $3.17 per gallon.
