- It’s Election Day for many municipalities across the state today including Sebastian and Vero Beach on the Treasure Coast where turnout via vote-by-mail ballots currently stands at 11%. Polls are open from 7am-7pm.
- The state’s special legislative session was underway Monday with two bills receiving House approval. The expansion of the Family Empowerment Scholarship Program and the proposal to make $45 million in grants available to Jewish non-profits across the state to enhance security. The Senate passed a resolution expressing support for Israel and condemnation for Hamas. The session continues today and is scheduled through Thursday.
- An investigation into the Harbourside Place fountains which led to the electrocution of five people, one which was fatal, found that light fixtures in the fountain were “leaking electrical voltage”. The fountain will remain off and without water until fixes have been made or the fountains are demolished, which is under consideration.
- The tropics are clear with no activity expected over the next week.
- A day after hitting a new low for the year, gas prices bumped up 4 cents per gallon over the past day. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded is $3.20 per gallon – 7 cents lower than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.38 per gallon and in Indian River County the average is $3.21 per gallon.
