- A disturbance in the Caribbean Sea has a 60% chance of developing into a tropical depression by the end of the week. The system is expected to drift northeast towards Cuba bringing a lot of moisture along with it from the south that could interact with a low-pressure system in the Gulf and a weak cold front in the north which will likely bring wind and regular rainfall throughout the week in our area.
- The State of Florida is looking into the student group Students for Justice in Palestine, which is active at multiple Florida colleges. The organization, which is supportive of Hamas, has been disbanded at multiple colleges across the country. The state is considering taking action which would ban the student organization within the state.
- Martin County housing developer Mattamy Homes held their first Tortoise Trot 5k at the KC Trails in Palm City over the weekend. The event was held to inaugurate the recently constructed trails and to support a 30-acre tortoise sanctuary. $1,500 was donated to the sanctuary which accounted for 3,000 tortoises over the past year with 1,300 that were rehabilitated and released back into the wild.
- Gas prices dropped a bit over the weekend. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded is $3.18 per gallon – 2 cents higher than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.35 per gallon and in Indian River County the average is $3.17 per gallon.
