- The Florida Division of Emergency Management has launched a program to assist Floridians trapped in Haiti due to the political instability in the country. The state has setup the website FloridaDisaster.Org/Haiti for families either in Florida or in Haiti needing assistance. Emergency Management Director Kevin Gurthrie pledges: We will do everything possible to help Floridians and Americans who are in need of help in Haiti.
- The Palm Beach County School District has begun the rollout of a new A.I. based tutor system. The program, called Khanmigo has been made available to students seeking extra assistance with their studies at Boca Raton Community High School, Boynton Beach Community High School, Glades Central Community High School, Jupiter Community High School, Palm Beach Central High School, Santaluces Community High School, Seminole Ride Community High School, Suncoast Community High School and Wellington Community High School. The district intends a full rollout to all district high schools next year.
- Vero Beach officials have proposed a plan to the Florida Department of Transportation aimed at improving the flow of traffic and parking. The project, with an estimated cost of $37 million would add four dedicated turn lanes onto Aviation Blvd. And two right turn lanes on U.S. 1’s southbound lanes with two left turn lanes on U.S. 1’s northbound side.
- Early voting for the March 19th Presidential Preference primary and municipal elections continues today. In Palm Beach County early voting will continue through Sunday. Over 11% of eligible voters have either voted early or by mail thus far. In Martin and Indian River Counties early voting runs through Saturday.
- Another warm day today with highs in the low 80’s once again, or about four degrees warmer than usual for this date. Temperatures are expected to remain warmer than usual, rising into the mid to upper 80’s over the weekend.
- Gas prices rose five cents per gallon for the second straight day on Thursday. The average price statewide for regular unleaded is currently $3.48 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.61 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.51 and in Indian River County the average is $3.46 per gallon.
