  • Governor DeSantis signed Florida’s Education bill into law on Tuesday. The legislation will include reforms for conversion of “turnaround schools” into charter schools, streamlines the process for challenges for appropriate books in school libraries and will establish what will be known as Purple Star School Districts in support of military families. Among other recent bills signed into law by the governor... 
  • The Swimming Lesson Voucher Program. The new law sets aside $500,000 annually for the Florida Department of Health to create a swimming lesson voucher program in which lower income families with young children would be able to receive vouchers to cover the costs of swimming lessons. 
  • Boynton Beach commissioners have advanced a proposal which would bring speed detection cameras to school zones in the city. A recent study conducted of excessive speeding in Boynton’s school zones revealed up to 17% of drivers in the city’s school zones excessively speed. Tuesday’s vote on implementation of the cameras was a first reading setting commissioners up for a vote to implement them in a future meeting. 
  • A second special meeting was held to discuss the future of West Palm Beach’s waterfront on Tuesday. The City recently scrapped a plan to build a marina after public backlash to the proposal. The third and final meeting for West Palm Beach residents, as part of the city’s Your Waterfront, Your Way, listening tour will be held this Saturday, the 20th at the Mandel Public Library from 10am to noon.  
  • Another warm and pleasant day today with highs in the low 80’s, about three degrees warmer than usual for this date. Temperatures are expected to continue gradually rising for the next several days approaching potential record highs in the process. 
  • Gas prices rose another five cents per gallon to the highest prices of the year on Tuesday. The average price statewide for regular unleaded is currently $3.64 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.77 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.66 and in Indian River County the average is $3.60 per gallon.
