  • This is National Hurricane Preparedness week. According to NOAA this year’s themes are: “Know Your Risk: Water & Wind, Prepare Before Hurricane Season, Understand Forecast Information”, Get Moving When a Storm Threatens, Stay Protected During Storms, Use Caution After Storms and Take Action Today”.  
  • The Florida Department of Environmental Protection is scheduled to conduct a prescribed burn, weather permitting, at Jonathan Dickinson State Park today. The burn will encompass 280 acres of the park near the picnic area and Park Drive.  
  • It was a safe and successful SunFest in West Palm Beach this year. Following years of increases in reported thefts and substance abuse overdoses, law enforcement officials are reporting that there were no arrests made or known overdoses to have occurred. The law enforcement presence was increased this year along with a public awareness campaign before the music festival.  
  • Last week the Village of Wellington began offering free door-to-door transportation for residents 55 and older. The program, which is in partnership with the EV transportation company Freebee, will offer free transportation services for eligible residents from 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Saturday. Residents may sign up by visiting the Community Center to register or by emailing rides@wellingonfl.gov. Approximately 100 people have signed up for the service. 
  • The weather will heat up considerably this week with highs in the mid 80’s, which is about four degrees higher than usual for this date and still hotter temperatures in store after today. 
  • Gas prices dropped about 4 cents per gallon over the weekend – though they’re still higher than a week ago. The average price statewide for regular unleaded is currently $3.60 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.77 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.64 and in Indian River County the average is $3.55 per gallon.
