- Florida, Fish and Wildlife is encouraging safer boating behavior in advance of the busy Memorial Day weekend. According to FWC, increased traffic on Florida’s waterways and more inexperienced boaters have led to increasingly unsafe conditions. In 2023 there were 52 boating accidents reported in Palm Beach County resulting in 23 injuries, 2 of which were fatal. In Martin County there were 14 accidents with 9 injuries and in Indian River County there were 4 accidents with 6 injuries – 1 fatal. You can review FWC’s boating tips at MyFWC.com/Boating.
- Naples is US News and World Report’s top city to live in, in this year’s annual report. As noted by the report: This year's Best Place to Live is Naples, a sunny resort city situated on Florida's Paradise Coast. Tourists may visit Naples for its miles of white-sand shorelines and breathtaking sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico, but residents make Naples their permanent home for its high standard of living. Sarasota was the second highest ranked city in Florida at #11. US News and World Report noted that seven out of the top ten fastest growing metros are in Florida.
- Loggerhead Marinelife Center is a finalist for USA Today’s annual Best Free Attraction award in the country. Voting is underway and will run through June 17th with a winner announced June 26th. You may cast one vote per day.
- We’ll have warm but drier weather today with highs in the upper 80’s which is about 6 degrees higher than usual for this date. Similar weather is expected throughout the week as Sarhan dust makes its way around South Florida from Hispaniola and Cuba.
- Gas prices rose seven cents per gallon on Monday. The average price statewide for regular unleaded is currently $3.51 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.65 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.47 and in Indian River County the average is $3.39 per gallon.
