- The National Weather Service has confirmed that South Florida experienced the hottest May on record. This included West Palm Beach tying the all-time high temperature recorded in any month (dating back to 1888) – 99. The average May temperature in West Palm Beach was 84.2 which broke the previous recorded high of 78.7 degrees. Record May heat was recorded in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Naples as well.
- Consumer sentiment in Florida declined in May – though Floridians remain more optimistic than the rest of the country. Last month consumer sentiment edged down by two-tenths of a percent in Florida contrasted with an 8.1% decline nationally according to the University of Florida’s Bureau of Economic and Business Research. Year-to-date consumer sentiment is essentially flat in Florida while it’s declined nationally.
- The Florida Forest Service has confirmed that the Martin County brush fire which broke out last week and that spread to approximately 230 acres is 100% contained. The fire started last Thursday near Stuart West in Palm City and steadily grew through the weekend prompting evacuations. The evacuations have been lifted and no property was damaged in the fire however, officials state that smoke will continue to be an issue for those nearby for the next few days.
- Sunny skies with highs up the mid to upper 80’s. Temps will be about 2 degrees higher than usual for this date. We should have similar but slightly warmer weather for the next couple of days. In the tropics... The National Hurricane Center is not expecting any tropical formations over the next week.
- Gas prices dropped by three cents per gallon on Monday. The average price statewide for regular unleaded is currently $3.41 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.63 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.47 and in Indian River County the average is $3.35 per gallon.
