  • Governor DeSantis signed the Safe Exchange of Minor Children bill, aka Cassie Carli’s Law, into law on Wednesday. The new law, which will take effect July 1st, mandates a court ordered parenting plan for the exchange of minor children at a neutral location with shared custody. The law tasks each sheriff’s office in the state with identifying a well-lit parking lot with video-surveillance for use in instances in which the parents can’t agree on a safe location to exchange children. 
  • The Palm Beach County School District is considering three plans to adjust the start of classes in the district’s schools to comply with a state law signed last year. Under Florida law by July 1st of 2026, middle schools may not start earlier than 8 a.m. while high school may not start prior to 8:30 a.m. The District’s Chief Operating Officer presented the three potential schedules which vary significantly. Under the three options elementary schools could start the day as early as 7:30 or as late as 9:45. Middle schools could start as early as 8 or as late as 10:20. High schools could start classes as early as 8:30 or as late as 9:15. The District plans to finalize a new schedule by May of next year. 
  • The Palm Beach County Commission has approved a $13 million bond to address affordable housing needs in Lake Worth Beach. With the money a new apartment complex, the Residences at Lake Worth, will be developed for primarily workforce housing. The 195-unit complex will feature 165 workforce housing units and is to be developed near Lake Worth Road between Congress Ave. and I-95 
  • A mix of clouds and sun today with an increasing chance for rain and highs in the low 90’s. Temps will be about 7 degrees higher than usual for this date. We’ll have similar weather with thunderstorms increasingly likely heading into the weekend. In the tropics... The National Hurricane Center is not expecting any tropical formations over the next week.  
  • Gas prices dropped by another three cents per gallon continuing the recent trend of lower prices. The average price statewide for regular unleaded is currently $3.36 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.60 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.41 and in Indian River County the average is $3.32 per gallon.
