- Palm Beach County is set to remove illegally anchored vessels and/or moored structures in the Lake Worth Lagoon. The county has announced a plan that will begin with a survey around Peanut Island on Monday to identify illegal vessels and structures for removal. The county has received $90,000 from the state to fund the project.
- As part of Red Lobster’s bankruptcy reorganization plan 24 locations in Florida are on the chopping block including two in Palm Beach County. The locations on Lake Worth Road and Palm Beach Lakes Blvd. are included in the company’s reorganization plan presented to the bankruptcy court. The plan is pending court approval.
- The recently approved Three Corners waterfront development project in Vero Beach has already run into a potentially significant snag. Vero Beach Officials have called a special meeting to reconsider the $140 million contract with developer SuDa after what appears to have been a violation of the bid process through unlawful tampering to attempt to influence the outcome of the vote. The meeting will be held at 9:30 this morning.
- There will be a delay in the reopening of Sixth Avenue South in Lake Worth Beach west of I-95. The bridge construction project, which was originally scheduled to reopen this month, won’t be completed for at least another few months. A 45-foot by 34-foot section of the newly created bridge failed to pass a quality assurance test and is being demolished with the crew needing to start over. County officials said that the cost of the failure will be absorbed by the contractor responsible for the project. The new tentative timeline for reopening is in August.
- A mix of clouds and sun today with a chance for afternoon thunderstorms with highs in the low 90’s. Temps will be about 8 degrees higher than usual for this date. We’ll have similar weather through the weekend. In the tropics... The National Hurricane Center is not expecting any tropical formations over the next week.
- Gas prices dropped by another two cents per gallon continuing the recent trend of lower prices. The average price statewide for regular unleaded is currently $3.34 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.58 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.39 and in Indian River County the average is $3.29 per gallon.
