- Governor DeSantis has signed the Community Associations bill into law. The new law, which takes effect July 1st, mandates additional disclosure for residents with 25 or more units, including an updated association website. There are mandatory education requirements for running a homeowner's association and mandatory meetings at least quarterly for associations with 10 or more units among other reforms.
- The United States Supreme Court is set to decide whether to take up the legal challenge to sports betting in Florida. Under the 2021 Seminole Compact the Seminole Tribe was granted legal authority by the state to conduct and facilitate sports betting operations onsite at its casinos and through its app. The Compact has faced a series of legal challenges brought by pari-mutuels represented as West Flagler Associates. The pari-mutals argue the Compact violates the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. The most recent federal ruling enabled the Compact to take effect and the Seminole Tribe has offered sports betting and expanded casino gaming since last fall.
- The Palm Beach Police Department captured four illegal immigrants Sunday morning near 1200 North Ocean Blvd. The Palm Beach PD found a beached vessel leading to the capture of four illegal immigrants. Authorities believe others on the boat may have evaded capture.
- Boca Raton is launching a new shuttle service today. BocaConnect is an on-demand shuttle that will offer free “eco-friendly” rides throughout downtown Boca. The service will offer extended destinations for a fee. The service is a partnership between the City of Boca Raton and the ride share company “Ride Circuit”. Residents can downland the Ride Circuit app to use the service.
- A mix of clouds and sun today with wind picking up this afternoon. The high will be in the upper 80’s. Temps will be about 2 degrees higher than usual for this date. The National Hurricane Center is tracking two disturbances. A disturbance in the Southwestern Gulf has a 70% chance of development as it’s expected to cross over into Mexico and perhaps Southern Texas by the weekend. Another disturbance off of Florida’s east coast has a 30% chance of development as it’s expected to approach the Southeast coastline between northern Florida and the South Carolina coastline later this week.
- Gas prices continued lower through the weekend reaching the lowest average price statewide in about 5 months. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.25 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.49 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.27 and in Indian River County the average is $3.23 per gallon.
