  • Governor DeSantis signed four bills into law on Tuesday including the Coverage for Biomarker Testing bill. Effective July 1st state provided health coverage plans and Medicaid plans will be required to cover Biomarker tests. The Cancer Funding bill will also take effect July 1st. Under the law grant funding will be made available through the state’s Cancer Innovation Fund to health care providers and facilities that demonstrate excellence in patient-centered cancer treatment or research. 
  • Citizens Property Insurance, the state’s insurer of last resort, and currently the largest insurer with approximately 1.2 million policies, will seek a 14% increase for insurance renewals today. Citizens’ Board of Governors meets to approve the proposed increase for policy renewals that would take effect in 2025 if approved by the state. Annual rate increases for Citizens policies are limited under state law and are currently 38% below market rates.  
  • The Town of Jupiter has taken a first step towards a new ordinance that could lead to 3-acres of Cinquez Park being rezoned by the town for a new fire station. Officials approved a first reading of the proposed ordinance that could eventually lead to the land use change. A second reading on the Future Land Use Map Amendment will be held July 16th.  
  • A chance of thunderstorms today with wind picking up throughout the day. Highs will be in the upper 80’s. Temps will be about 3 degrees higher than usual for this date. The National Hurricane Center is tracking two disturbances. Potential Tropical Cyclone One in the Southwestern Gulf is expected to develop into a tropical storm today before making landfall in Mexico tomorrow. Another disturbance in the eastern Carribean has a 20% chance of development, as it’s expected to approach the Southeast coastline between northern Florida and the South Carolina later this week.  
  • Gas prices are at fresh 4+ month lows dropping another penny on Tuesday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.23 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.47 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.27 and in Indian River County the average is $3.21 per gallon.
