- With a record number of dengue fever cases reported nationally, including over 200 in Florida this year, the CDC has issued a public health alert. The viral disease spreads through mosquito bites. Officials are reminding residents to dump standing water, wear clothing that helps prevent bites in addition to using repellants. Most of the cases in Florida have been in South Florida.
- Governor DeSantis signed three bills into law and also issued four vetoes on Wednesday. The new laws include the Easements Affecting Real Property Owned by the Same Owner bill. Under the new law which immediately took effect a landowner may create a valid easement, servitude, or other interest that affects his or her own land if one doesn’t already exist. The Chiropractic Medicine bill is also now law. The new expands the scope of treatments chiropractors may provide.
- Two illegal immigrants from Romania have been sentenced to federal prison and referred for deportation following a skimming operation that resulted in over 3,000 stolen bank and credit card numbers primarily in Florida. Florida Highway Patrol uncovered the skimming operation leading to the arrests last year.
- Sunny skies this morning will give way to increasing clouds with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Highs will be around 90 - a few degrees warmer than usual for this date. The National Hurricane Center is tracking two disturbances. A disturbance in the western Carribean is expected to emerge in the Southern Gulf of Mexico over the next few days. It has a 20% chance of development. A disturbance in the southeastern Atlantic is likely to develop as it tracks westward towards the Leeward Islands over the next week – it has a 70% chance of developing.
- Gas prices rose for a third straight day, rising by an additional four cents on Wednesday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.44 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.58 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.50 and in Indian River County the average is $3.42 per gallon.
