Florida News That Impacts You – July 15th, 2024

Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you in South Florida.

  • Local law enforcement agencies, led by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, have been in communication with the Secret Service regarding extra security measures in and around Mar-a-Lago and Trump-owned properties following Saturday’s assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. Heightened security protocols have been undertaken throughout the area from Doral through Indian River County.
  • The parent company of the Salt Life brand, Delta Apparel, has provided notice that they will close 15 locations across Florida, including three in Palm Beach County (Jupiter, Palm Beach Gardens, Boca Raton), if they’re unsuccessful in finding a buyer for the company by August 29th.
  • Palm Beach is one of top downtowns to visit in World Atlas’ Best Downtowns to Visit list this year. As stated by World Atlas: Downtown Palm Beach largely consists of the aptly named Worth Avenue. Here, boutique shops and art galleries rub shoulders with luxury yacht sales rooms and high-end realtors, making it a great spot for watching others spend money. This year’s an especially good time to visit as the Norton Museum of Art will host a major exhibition celebrating Florida's artistic heritage featuring works inspired by the state's unique landscape and culture.
  • A mix of clouds and sun today with highs in the low 90’s. Temperatures will be about 5 degrees warmer than usual for this date. Thanks in large part to a significant Saharan dust cloud, the National Hurricane Center’s map is clear and the NHC isn’t expecting tropical activity for the next 7 days.
  • Gas prices are flat with where we were a week ago. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.51 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.66 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.54 and in Indian River County the average is $3.51 per gallon.
