- The strongest sign yet that Florida’s property insurance market is turning a corner from its litigation crisis came Thursday when insurer American Integrity Insurance announced the largest reduction in policy premiums upon renewal of any company yet – 6.9%. The insurer said the rate reduction will be felt by 55,000 policy holders across the state. The reason cited by the company: Historic legislative reforms have begun to dismantle the costly 'tort tax' that consumers have shouldered for years.
- The Martin County School District is taking the unprecedented step of supplying all school supplies for students for the upcoming school year. The District’s Finance Division set aside the estimated $35,000 required to provide the supplies to students in all K-12 public schools. Parents with questions about the program are encouraged to contact their child’s school directly.
- The Town of Palm Beach has announced that South Ocean Blvd., in the vicinity of Mar-a-Lago, will be closed to through traffic from 4 pm Saturday through Election Day in November. The area impacted will be between Woodbridge Road and Southern Blvd. The decision is due to increased security measures being undertaken following the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump.
- A chance of showers and thunderstorms throughout the day today with highs in the low 90’s. Temperatures will be about 6 degrees warmer than usual for this date. Thanks in large part to a significant Saharan dust cloud, the National Hurricane Center’s map is clear and the NHC isn’t expecting tropical activity for the next 7 days.
- Gas prices dropped another two cents per gallon on Thursday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.43 per gallon, 12 cents lower than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.59 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.41 and in Indian River County the average is $3.42 per gallon.
