- Florida’s entire Democrat delegation, 224 delegates, has pledged support to vote for Kamala Harris for president. It’s the largest state delegate to back Harris to date. Numerous prominent Democrats have also endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president following President Biden’s exit from the race including U.S. Senate candidate Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, congressional representatives Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Jared Moskowitz and Anna Eskamani and state legislators Lauren Book and Fentrice Driskall. Also notable, Florida’s most prominent Democrat fundraiser John Morgan, is not endorsing Harris and stated he won’t fundraise for her – however he stated that Harris can keep the $1 million he’d already personally donated to the Biden-Harris campaign.
- Today is the deadline for Floridians to register to vote or change party registration status to participate in the August 20th primary elections. Florida is a closed primary state meaning one must be registered to a political party in order to vote in partisan primaries.
- The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is warning of a scam targeting owners of lost pets. The scam features fraudsters using information posted online about lost pets to attempt to get pet owners to provide payment information to cover bogus medical expenses. According to PBSO the scammers present themselves as members of Animal Care & Control stating that their pets have been found but are in need of urgent medical care. Animal Care & Control has stated that they never ask for payment over the phone. Anyone who has been targeted with this scam is encouraged to report it to PBSO.
- A mix of clouds and storms today with a high in the upper 80’s. Temperatures will be about 3 degrees warmer than usual for this date. Thanks in large part to a significant Saharan dust cloud, the National Hurricane Center’s map is clear and the NHC isn’t expecting tropical activity for the next 7 days.
- Gas prices continued to trend lower through the weekend. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.35 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.52 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.31 and in Indian River County the average is $3.35 per gallon.
