  • Florida’s Board of Education released its annual School Accountability Report on Wednesday and there was especially good news for two local school districts. The Palm Beach County School District raised its grade from a “B” to an “A” in the most recent school year while the Indian River County School District maintained its “A” grade. The Martin and St. Lucie School Districts posted B’s this year. The annual report measures the performance of schools across 12 criteria from classroom performance to graduation rates. Also, of note Broward raised its grade from a B to an A with Miami Dade maintaining an A. Speaking of the Florida Board of Education... 
  • NIL, or Name, Image and Likeness deals for high school student athletes has been green lighted by the state. The proposal approved by the Florida Board of Education opens Florida’s high school student athletes to the same opportunities afforded to collegiate student athletes. Stated restrictions include a prohibition from endorsements featuring alcohol, cannabis, tobacco or vaping products. Also gambling and sports betting services will be a no-go.  
  • The Riveria Beach Utility District will continue without a director following an emergency meeting to address the issue on Wednesday. City officials rejected a proposal to elevate the Assistant Utility Director, Steven Doyle to the post after the recent firing of Director Michael Low following a water contamination crisis and coverup within the city. Multiple officials expressed a desire to do greater due diligence in selecting a new director with some expressing a desire to look outside of the Utility District for the next director. 
  • It will be sunny and hot again today with highs in the lower 90’s. Temperatures will be about five degrees warmer than usual for this date. Thanks in large part to a significant Saharan dust cloud, the National Hurricane Center’s map is clear and the NHC isn’t expecting tropical activity for the next 7 days.  
  • Gas prices paused statewide on Wednesday dropping about a penny per gallon, though they continued to rise locally. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.45 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.62 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.50 and in Indian River County the average is $3.47 per gallon.
