  • Effective today newly issued Florida ID’s will include enhanced security measures. As part of a newly enacted state law each state issued ID is required to include at least four randomly generated numbers to better protect personal information. According to the state: Customers renewing or replacing their license or identification cards in person or online will be issued a new number. Those applying for a first-time license or identification card will be issued a card that meets the new statutory requirements
  • A new study of Florida’s property insurance market shows that Florida continues to have the highest average property insurance premiums in the country, with average premiums that are $284 higher than the second most expensive state which is now Nebraska, however the study confirmed that entering the back half of the year the average property insurance premium across all carriers within the state isn’t increasing upon renewal for the first time in eight years.  
  • The Florida Policy Institute has released a new report documenting $2.2 billion is needed to address “dire” infrastructure issues across the state’s Department of Corrections facilities. Among the commonly cited needs are new roofs, ac units, lighting fixtures and water treatment systems. 
  • According to city officials, there will be a delay in the Riviera Beach Marina Village development project following competing proposals between two development groups that are supposed to be collaborating on the project. The city’s Community Redevelopment Agency has given developers 30 days to reconcile their proposals.  
  • Today will be hotter with a mix of clouds and sun with a high in the low 90’s. Temperatures will be about 5 degrees warmer than usual for this date. The National Hurricane Center is tracking a disturbance in the Atlantic that could develop into a tropical depression later this week with the potential to impact Florida. The system currently has a 60% chance of development as Saharan dust continues to mitigate the development of tropical systems in the Atlantic.  
  • Gas prices rose a penny on Tuesday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.40 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.57 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.44 and in Indian River County the average is $3.37 per gallon.
