Q&A of the Day – Election 2024 – What is Required to Prove Citizenship?

Today’s Entry: Hi Brian, What is considered to be proof of US citizenship? Seems like a simple question. But what proves that I’m a citizen?
Bottom Line: There’s no doubt that concerns over illegal immigrants voting has become the most discussed election integrity concern by many as we’re now only 85 days away from Election Day and only 35 days away from the first ballots of the 2024 presidential election being cast in the critical state of Pennsylvania. While estimates for the actual number of border crossers that have gained access to the interior under the Biden administration are all over map – ranging from the officially reported numbers to as high as 20 million or more – what we know is that even the officially reported numbers have reached staggering heights.
According to Customs and Border Patrol’s officially reported numbers through June – there had already been over 10 million border crossings (some of which include illegal immigrants being flown straight into the interior). At 10.2+ million border crossings since Joe Biden became president and Kamala Harris became vice president, it’s not only a staggering number, but also a number that if were counted as its own state – it would be the 10th largest in the country – one larger than Michigan. That should help to paint the picture about the extent of what’s been permitted by this administration over the prior 3.5 years. Now to the root of today’s question, it’s illegal for any non-citizen to vote in any federal election. So, on that note what’s required to prove citizenship to legally vote?
- Your name
- Your date of birth
- The years searched by the vital records office to find your birth record
- Confirmation that they were unable to find a birth certificate on file
And if still not verified from that information:
- A hospital birth certificate
- A baptism certificate
- Census records
- Early school records
- A Certificate of Naturalization or the four following documents...
- Your foreign birth record showing your parents' names
- Evidence of a parent’s U.S. citizenship
- Your parents' marriage certificate, if applicable
- A statement from your U.S. citizen parent(s) which lists where and when they lived in the U.S. and abroad before your birth
It was just last week that Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin signed an executive order to strike 6,000 non-citizens from the state’s voter rolls after it was discovered they were illegally registered to vote. We don’t know what we don’t know in terms of how many illegal immigrants are registered to vote and that will choose to vote. States that are most vulnerable to illegal immigrants voting are those without voter ID laws.
There are currently 15 states that lack voter ID laws and there are a few critical swing states among them. Those most notably include Minnesota, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Maine. The bottom line is that it’s not easy to fake citizenship in order to appear as though one is an eligible voter. It is much easier to attempt to illegally vote in 15 states that have lax voter ID protocols in place. There have already been 14 criminal convictions across ten states – including Wisconsin, for voter fraud of varying sorts in 2024. It’s a given that there’s set to be more. This is one of many reasons why it's important for the GOP to be on guard and ready for potential issues that may come up and why it's critical to have poll watchers across the country. The more eyes and scrutiny that elections receive the less likely shenanigans will occur. The penalty for illegal immigrants voting is steep – including 5 years in jail, significant fines and deportation. Creating awareness and monitoring polls is the best way to deter the millions of illegal immigrants in this country from attempting to illegally vote.
