  • Congressional Representative Brian Mast sent a letter Thursday to Governor DeSantis and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection demanding greater transparency and consideration for constituents regarding proposed development in nine state parks including Johnathan Dickinson Park. Mast called the DEP proposal for three golf courses and a clubhouse to be developed with the park, “a slap in the face to the community”. A meeting with public comments will be held next Tuesday, August 27th, at The Flagler of Stuart at 3 pm. Public comments are currently scheduled for one hour and the capacity at the venue is said to be 150 people.  
  • Proposed property tax assessments are in the mail for Palm Beach County homeowners. The Palm Beach County property appraiser's office announced Thursday that TRIM, or Truth in Millage, notices to all property owners in the county had been sent. The notices are not a final tax bill but provide guidance about tax assessed property values in addition to proposed assessments by local taxing authorities. Owners are entitled to challenge assessments they think are incorrect through September 16th. 
  • Florida Atlantic University is one of 12 universities across the state that has been tasked with reviewing test questions for potential antisemitism. The review comes following the recent discovery of antisemitic questioning in FIU tests. An investigation into FIU’s questioning found that test questions were randomly selected from a test bank of 1,500 potential questions that may be possibly used by other schools within the state.  
  • It’ll be hot again today with afternoon thunderstorms possible and highs around 90. Temperatures will be about 4 degrees warmer than usual for this date. The National Hurricane Center isn’t expecting any new tropical systems to develop over the next seven days
  • Gas prices dropped three cents per gallon on Tuesday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.33 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.52 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.39 and in Indian River County the average is $3.35 per gallon.
