Florida’s Voter Registration by Party – October 15th, 2024
Bottom Line: Florida’s voter registration trends haven’t been the friend of Florida’s Democrats in recent years. For the better part of twenty years Republicans steadily ate away at the voter registration advantage Florida’s Democrats had held since the onset of partisan voter record keeping in the 1970’s. By November of 2021, amid massive pandemic induced relocations, Republican voter registrations outnumbered Democrats for the first time. And every month since, the GOP advantage by way of voter registration has grown. At the onset of 2023 Florida’s Democrats opted to head in a new direction with party leadership tapping former Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried to lead the party going forward. It’s safe to say that hasn’t turned the tide back towards Democrats in Florida. Last year Florida’s Democrats saw an active voter registration decline of greater than 566,000 voters. In 2024 the trend of a growing Republican advantage in the state has remained the same.

These are the 2024 voter registration changes entering October:
- DEM: +38,414 (+6,919 in September)
- GOP: +313,632 (+69,926 in September)
- NPA/Other: +143,458 (+55,076 in September)
The current breakout of registered voters looks like this...
- DEM: 31.8%
- GOP: 39.4%
- NPA/Other: 28.8%
As the final push to register voters in advance of the general election took place registrations of all types rose. The gains were clearly not even, however, as the multiyear trends remained the same. Republicans continued to significantly outperform Democrats during the month once again, out registering Democrats by a 10-1 margin resulting in a record Republican voter registration advantage.
The Republican advantage over Democrats now stands at a record 1,054,919 million voters. That total includes a net change of 63,007 voters in September. Of Florida’s 67 counties – only 10 currently have Democrat majorities by way of voter registration. A county worth watching is one of the largest in the state, Hillsborough, which includes Tampa. Should the current pace of changes in voter registration keep up, it could be the next to flip.
