  • It was a historic victory for Donald Trump in Florida as he won by over 13 – points, the largest margin of victory for a presidential candidate in the state since George H.W. Bush in 1988. Trump carried all but six counties within the state including traditional blue counties Duval, Hillsborough, Miami Dade and Osceola. Trump lost Palm Beach County by less than a point. Similarly, Senator Rick Scott won by nearly 13-points. 
  • Only two of Florida’s four proposed constitutional amendments passed, Amendment 2, the hunting and fishing amendment, and Amendment 5 the Homestead inflation exception. 
  • It’ll be rainy and windy today with highs in the mid 80’s, a little warmer than usual for this date. The National Hurricane Center is tracking two systems. Hurricane Rafael is approaching western Cuba. It’s then expected to continue through the Gulf tracking towards Louisiana, though a landfall isn’t certain. Most of the Florida Keys are under a tropical storm warning this morning. Gradual weakening back into a tropical storm is expected as it advances through the Gulf. A disturbance near the Leeward Islands has a 30% chance of developing over the next seven days.  
  • Gas prices rose significantly for the second straight day. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.14 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.29 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.19 and in Indian River County the average is $3.17 per gallon.
