  • Governor DeSantis issued an executive memo directing state law enforcement agencies, the FDLE and FWC, and the Florida State Guard to enter into a Memoranda of Agreement with the Department of Homeland Security to train and execute deportation functions for illegal immigrants under ICE’s 287(g) program. The directive comes following new state laws passed in a recent special session mandating law enforcement participation in ICE’s 287(g) program at the county and state level. Once training is completed the FDLE, FWC and Florida State Guard will be able to carry out most functions ICE performs. Related... 
  • Governor DeSantis has appointed Clermont Police Chief Charles Broadway to the newly created State Immigration Enforcement Council which has been established to provide guidance to the state on how best to combat/address illegal immigration within the state.  
  • Florida has ended the practice of offering in-state tuition for undocumented students within the state. Under the previous program students lacking authorized status could apply for in-state tuition if they’d attended high school for at least three consecutive years and enrolled in college within two years of graduation from high school. All current recipients under this classification are to be “reevaluated for eligibility” by July 1st.  
  • Cloudy skies and cooler today with highs in the upper 60’s along the Treasure Coast to low 70’s in the Palm Beaches – cooler than usual for this date. Similar weather is expected for the rest of the week. 
  • Gas prices were flat on Wednesday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.15 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.30 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.21 and in Indian River County the average is $3.17 per gallon.
