  • Southwest Florida Congressman Byron Donalds has announced that he’s running for governor. In a post on X Donalds said: I arrived in the Sunshine State at 17 years old on a Greyhound bus, with a trunk full of clothes and a dream. Now is the time to keep the best state in the country as the best state in the country. Tonight, I am proud to announce my candidacy to be the next governor of Florida. The announcement followed President Trump’s recent endorsement of Donalds to be Florida’s next governor, but also amid speculation that First Lady Casey DeSantis may also be considering a bid to replace her husband. 
  • An independent investigation into the Delray Beach Fire Rescue unit that was involved with a Brightline train crash in December, determined that the firefighters did not engage in “willful, wanton or malicious intent by any personnel to violate City or Fire Rescue policies”. The four firefighters involved had been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation. The driver of the firetruck was issued a traffic citation in the incident. 
  • Vero Beach’s Finance Director Steve Dionne has resigned after failing to meet the state’s annual audit deadline – which was January 15th. The failure to meet the deadline risks losing state funding. The city has appointed a new director who is said to be working as quickly as possible to complete the audit. 
  • After a cool start to the day partly cloudy skies today with highs in the low to mid 70’s – typical for this date. We’re expecting slightly warmer and otherwise similar weather for the rest of the week.  
  • Gas prices rose another three cents per gallon on Tuesday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.15 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.31 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.20 and in Indian River County the average is $3.17 per gallon.
