- The South Florida Water Management District has closed multiple navigation locks on the north shore of Lake Okeechobee due to low water levels making boating conditions unsafe. The Lake is currently at a depth of 12 feet which is two feet below usual for this time of the year as the Army Corps of Engineers insisted on eastern and western discharges from the Lake starting December 7th, which were in violation of their agreed to operating manual which was finalized last year.
- A ‘systemic misuse of funds’ is what Palm Beach County’s Inspector General has uncovered in Pahokee where approximately $2 million in taxpayer funds are unaccounted for. The report highlights potential fraud by the City’s former manager and has been referred to the State Attorney’s Office for a potential criminal case to be pursued. The auditor indicated that misappropriation of funds dates back at least ten years with numerous city employees participating in the abuse.
- Developers have presented a plan for a potential gas station plaza in the Acreage. The plan, which was opened for public comment, seeks to develop a 5-acre site at Northlake Blvd. and Seminole Pratt Whitney Road, which would include a 12-pump 7-11 gas station with a drive thru restaurant. The county commission will consider potential next steps for the project in August.

- Gas prices fell another three cents per gallon on Tuesday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.04 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.18 per gallon, in Martin the average is $2.99 and in Indian River County the average is $3.04 per gallon.
