Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast.

  • On Wednesday Florida’s House passed two bills viewed as rebukes to Governor DeSantis’s policies. The Higher Education bill would strip the governor and board of governors from any decision-making authority in selecting university presidents amid other changes. The State Land Management bill, which would ban commercial development in state parks, unanimously passed. Both bills have yet to be taken up by the senate. During Wednesday’s session House Speaker Daniel Perez said this on the floor about Governor DeSantis: It seems that we’re getting into this regularity where he has a temper tantrum. He gets in front of a camera and he starts to do one of two things. Willingly choosing to lie about what he is telling the people in front of a camera, or he is choosing not to read the bills or look at our budget.
  • The Martin County School District intends to sell stadium naming rights to the Martin County High School football stadium with the potential expansion to other district properties going forward. The District is seeking $2,700 a week for naming rights.
  • The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office is looking for help to apprehend the people responsible for a series of auto burglaries in the Vero Lakes Estates community Wednesday morning. IRCSO is asking residents with security video footage showing the crimes and/or potential suspects to share the footage with them. The crimes took place at approximately 2:30 a.m.
  • Sunny and warm with highs in the low 80’s which is typical for this date. We can expect similar weather for the rest of the week.
